    TEG refers to Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge. TEG offers standardized in-person exams, which take place in Ireland and, occasionally, in the US, to help you monitor your progress through Irish language proficiency. The TEG site also offers learning materials, including sound files and practice exams. It uses the CEFR standards for each level. which are designated as A1 and A2 (beginners), B1 and B2 (intermediates), and C1 and C2 (advanced). Visit the site for more information.

  • The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

    TEG is based on the CEFR framework. CEFR classifies language profiency based on six levels A0-C2, from basic user to proficient user.   • A Class for your Level of Irish

    Our classes provide a range of courses, conversation groups and reading groups that help you develop reading and auditory comprehension and writing and spoken language production. We recommend you attend all classes at your level to ensure you are developing all skills. Conversation and reading classes are free with tuition.

CEFR Levels

CEFR levels describe more than just ‘comprehension’ and ‘speaking’. Their descriptors cover cover details such as understanding conversations between others, understanding as a member of a live audience, understanding film and tv, understanding directions and announcements, and other contexts. TEG Exams

TEG provides a series of proficiency exams and qualifcations to Irish learners. Exams are available in A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1. Exams take place in April and May of each year. The TEG syllabus provides a curriculum framework to help you prepare for the exams, which include spoken and written tasks and both reading and aural comprehension.
